Future Goals for Game Making

I have been out of the game (pun intended) for a lot longer than I would’ve liked. Aside from my computers repeatedly dying, there has been so much going on that I just haven’t had the time to even think about making games. I have been busy studying for my second degree (teaching) and I spend a lot of time creating visually interesting/engaging worksheets and resources for fun. I have also been finding way of bringing games into learning.
This is a side note about my current job
Recently, I started doing Dread-like one-shots with my class as a literacy tool. It started with the kids not understanding how to build suspense and I figured the visual of the wobbly Jenga tower alongside an interactive story could help them understand how to build tension. It worked wonders and the kids really enjoyed it. I’ve now expanded it to various genres and removed most of the suspense and all of the horror. They’ve been learning how to negotiate, how different characters would make different decisions (and the consequences of those decisions), and are building numerous different social skills. It’s honestly fantastic to see how much they’ve enjoyed it, especially since they don’t realise they are learning.
I’ve also made a heap of interactive PowerPoints that play like games in order to make learning fun and have spent far far too long on that.
Side note end
Anyways, I still want to make games even though I don’t currently have the resources. I very much want to make the space sci-fi/suspense game that I’ve been thinking about since 2019 but it’s very much on the back burner. I’m currently saving up for yet another computer but I do have some future goals I wish to achieve. So here are my goals for the next year or so:
1. Get back into programming
I want to get back into more coding. Even if it’s just quick tutorial projects or doing random effects on a website, I just want to get back into it. I know c# the best but have been working in HTML and CSS on and off. I don’t really care what language I am coding in, I just want to get back into coding.
2. Embed a game into a website
I am determined to work out how on Earth games can be embed into websites and I intend on embedding that Swift or Shakespeare game into my website somehow. I don’t care how long it takes, I will find a way.
3. Publish a game on Cool Maths Games
This is just for bragging rights, I’m not gonna lie. I know that not every game that gets submitted will be approved for the site but I want to be able to tell my students “I made one of those games you play”. I have a brief idea of a small game I could make but I need to get a new computer :/ .
Anyway, there’s my main goals for the near future. I don’t know if these are going to be possible with my study load and work and the whole computers-keep-dying-on-me thing but I want to try. I also want to try and keep this blog updated with my progress as I go. Maybe once I work out the whole website thing, I’ll upload an instruction guide ¯\(ツ)/¯.
